NASA Technical Standards are standards, specifications, handbooks, codes, and guidelines or guide books that establishes uniform engineering and technical requirements for processes, procedures, practices, and methods. The standards enables NASA scientists and engineers to work more efficiently on its programs and projects.
Until recently each NASA center was responsible for the development and selection of Non-NASA technical standards that met the needs of programs and projects for which they are responsible. DOD standards and specifications were the main source of technical standards used by NASA.
The elements encompasses the primary activities of the NASA Technical Standards Initiative involving 3 systems:
-
Agencywide Full-text Technical Standards System
-
SUNS, Standards update Notification System
-
Lessons Learned/Best Practices/Application Notes - Standards Integration System
