Background
EMI filters for space flight use are procured using the requirements set forth in MIL-PRF-28861.  This specification provides for two levels of product assurance requirements, class B and class S.

Major Issues
The selection of parts manufactured to this specification is limited.  Parts may have to be procured using a Specification Control Drawing.  These drawings should reference the appropriate sections of MIL-PRF-28861 in order to obtain the product assurance level desired.

Many of these parts are damaged in the installation process.  Extreme care should be taken when mounting these devices.  Filter manufacturers can provide precautions and instructions for individual circumstances.

Sources of Information

EEE-INST-002 has a section on EMI filters.  This publication replaces 311-INST-001.
