Monolithic Microcircuits

Background
MIL-PRF-38535 is the primary specification for procuring monolithic microcircuits for space flight use. This standard is only applicable for microcircuits that are controlled by DSCC’s Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD) and are listed in the Qualified Manufacturer's List (QML).
Concerns
Some manufacturers are not on the QML but make space flight parts, and other manufacturers have dropped their QML rating. In such cases, a manufacturer’s high-rel or space in-house processing flow needs to be compared to the closest equivalent military specification. To ensure that you are meeting your mission parts requirements, all monolithic microcircuit selections need to meet, as a minimum, the appropriate screening and qualification tables listed in GSFC specification EEE-INST-002.
If your mission has a radiation requirement, make sure that you order a microcircuit that comes from specific lots that have been manufacturer tested and guaranteed to the required level of radiation. Lot specific testing can be substituted for manufacturer’s guaranteed rating. Recommend that you consult with GSFC’s Radiation Effects Group for further details or design mitigation schemes.
