CALCE - Component Knowledge Base
Component Knowledge Base

CALCE has developed a component knowledge base to provide engineers with valuable background information on a variety of components.  Engineers in electronics industries are often expected to have knowledge on a broad spectrum of components.  Very few have the knowledge required for all situations.  Searching through multiple literature sources can be time consuming.  Therefore, CALCE has put together background documents for the components seen below.  These documents are not meant to be an exhaustive source for each component, but rather to be an information-packed introduction.  Each document also contains an extensive reference list to aid in gathering further information for the components.  This knowledge base will aid engineers in:

  • Identifying critical components in a product based on system application requirement and component technologies,
  • Understanding design and manufacturing (construction, material, reliability, quality issues) of these components,
  • Analyzing risks related to the application of these components,
  • Evaluating identified risks using analytic and reliability test methodologies,
  • Developing component reliability and quality specifications,
  • Developing guidelines for proper application of the components in system design, manufacturing, and test,
  • Identifying root-cause of failures related to the components, and
  • Investigating component quality/reliability function enhancement and cost reduction opportunities.
